The following precautions are applied for surgical procedures of the eye (intraocular surgery) such as cataract extraction, glaucoma surgery, and corneal transplantation:

 

1. Follow your surgeon's instructions and visit the office regularly as scheduled.

 

2. Avoid touching or rubbing the eye.

 

3. Avoid wetting the eye for 10-14 days.

 

4. Avoid swimming at the pool or the sea for 10-14 days.

 

5. Take the prescribed eye drops regularly as instructed by your physician. Avoid touching the eye with the bottle tip.

 

6. Cover the eye with a plastic shield when going to sleep.

 

7. Report to your surgeon immediately on any new abnormality such as a decrease in vision, pain, discomfort, redness of the eye, or discharge.

 

8. Always consult your surgeon about the specific treatment since this may vary from one surgery and one surgeon to another.
